Worked example: 40 sample acres in Polk County
Here's how the process works from start to finish.
A landowner in Polk County buys 40 acres that were previously used for grazing. The land has a small pond, some pine timber, and pasture. The land had ag valuation last year. The new owner isn't running cattle, so they want to switch to wildlife management to keep the 1-d-1 valuation.
You tell Keep My Acres: property location, county, acreage, prior use (grazing), and what wildlife species you want to manage for (deer, turkey, etc.).
We generate your custom wildlife management package: filing cover sheet, a TPWD wildlife plan with 4 management activities picked for Pineywoods habitat (predator control, supplemental food, shelter, census), a map of your property, and a filled sample of Comptroller Form 50-129 marked for wildlife management use.
You download the PDF, review all the details (owner name, property ID, acreage, CAD address, deadline), and print it. You sign Form 50-129 yourself.
You take or mail the signed documents to Polk Central Appraisal District (114 Matthews St., Livingston TX 77351) before April 30. You file this yourself. Keep My Acres does not file for you or act as your agent.
The Polk CAD reviews your application and wildlife plan. If everything is in order, they'll grant wildlife management 1-d-1 valuation. You may receive a letter confirming approval or requesting clarification.
If the chief appraiser approves it, the land keeps its 1-d-1 valuation under wildlife management instead of going to market value. You'll need to file a yearly wildlife report (PWD-888) each year with the Polk CAD to maintain the valuation.
